Coaching to Avoid Burnout
Case Study
The Problem
Mo, a newly promoted manager, worked late most evenings after their team had left. He was determined and ambitious. His team was performing well, but it appeared this was mainly due to Mo undertaking extra work.
As a result, he was tired, stressed, and stretched too thinly. The situation wasn’t sustainable – and his burnout would impact the company.
How My Coaching Helped
We focused on helping Mo become comfortable saying no to additional work and practised doing so without offending others.
We then helped his management change how they delegated work – from their focus on monitoring activity – to tracking output and results.
The Result
Within weeks, Mo was more relaxed, was smiling more and didn’t stay as late. The team overall had a better balance of work between its members.
His team’s performance improved and kept improving for several months after my assignment was completed.
